When preparing to plant a shrub or tree in your garden, consider digging a hole that looks ugly for planting them. If the shovel “glazes” any sides of the hole, leaving a smooth and compact surface, the roots may have trouble breaking through the soil in that area. If aphids are an issue in your garden, try the old-fashioned remedy of soapy water to get rid of them. Simply spray the plant with a mixture of soap and water in its entirety, including its leaves, buds and stems, and then rinse with clean water.
Once your seeds have germinated they will not need to be kept as warm as before. To ensure that your plants do not suffer shock, start eliminating the use of a heat source. Also take any plastic films off of your containers, so you can keep the warmth and humidity out. Keep a close watch on your seeds to know when to do this. Spend your time working efficiently in your organic garden. Don’t waste your time by searching high and low for that packet of seeds or spade. Take the time to prepare the necessary tools, and then store them in a easily accessed place once you are done gardening. You can keep your garden tools in a tool belt, or in your pockets. Another good idea is to keep them all in a bucket that you carry around with you.
Make a tent over your organic garden during the winter by using some materials around your home. Stick old bean poles into bed corners You should then throw a few old sheets over them. Be sure to use bricks on the edges to hold them down. This is an inexpensive way to build a tent that will protect your crops during winter. After you plant tomatoes in your garden for the first time, wait three weeks and then plant a second round. The reason is, this will prevent your entire harvest from coming in all at once. While ruin in one harvest can be an issue, having multiple harvests to look forward to can alleviate some of the issue. Remember to plan for adequate spacing when you first lay out an organic garden. You can easily underestimate how much space the plants need until they begin to grow. You will need to provide this space to provide ample room and because you need air circulating to your garden. Because of this, you should always take the time to ensure that there’s enough distance between all your seeds. Make sure that you plant your crops in segments at three-week intervals. The reason is, this will prevent your entire harvest from coming in all at once. If one crop is ruined for some reason, the next one will be healthy.
One way to ensure efficiency while gardening is to keep your tools close by. You can wear an apron or pants that have a lot of pockets, or use a big bucket or can. You should always have your gloves, pruning shears and a trowel close to you.
Grow items that are high in value, either in terms of money or in terms of your love for them. No two people are going to agree on the exact value of a plant because personal preferences vary. If you grow plants that cost more to buy at the market, growing them will be a cost savings for you in the long run. Remember to have fun. Get plants that you enjoy taking care of and take pride in your garden, once it grows.
